Our Amenities

Birds and Small Animals

As the longest running pet boarding facility in the state, we have a lot of experience providing the best care for dogs, cats, birds and other small animals. Our staff members are compassionate and highly trained animal care professionals. The owners live on the property and oversee the facility on a 24-hour basis.

We have a limited number of boarding spaces available for birds and small animals, so you will need to call ahead to reserve a spot. Holidays and summertime can get busy, so please plan accordingly.

Birds

In order for your bird to board with us, we require an up-to-date annual exam with a clean bill of health.

Small Animals

We care for rabbits, guinea pigs, pot-bellied pigs, miniature pigs, and goats. In order to board these animals with us, we require an up-to-date annual exam with a clean bill of health, and a fecal test with no parasites seen.

Ferrets

In order for your ferret to board with us, we require an up-to-date annual exam with a clean bill of health. Your ferret must be current on all vaccinations and certified by your veterinarian as parasite-free.

Miscellaneous Small Animals

If you own a small animal not listed here and require lodging for your pet, please call us to discuss your needs. We will attempt to accommodate you if we believe that we can provide the care your pet requires.

We do not accept reptiles or exotic pets.

Lodging Rates

Daily rates begin when your pet checks in, regardless of the time of day. On the day of pick-up, as long as you check-out by 12:00 pm, you will not be charged for lodging that day. Sundays are an exception to this rule. Since we are open from 3:00-6:00 pm on Sundays, we charge a full day’s lodging. However, this rate provides the option for you to leave your pet with us overnight on Sunday, and pick it up by 12:00 noon on Monday.

Small Animal Lodging FAQs

What are your check-in and check-out times?

We are open Mon – Friday from 7:30 am – 6:00 pm, Saturday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and Sunday from 3:00 pm -6:00 pm.

For check-in, we prefer pets to arrive no later than 5:00 pm so they can settle in for the evening. We encourage our customers to schedule their check-in time when making their reservation, to reduce any wait times for you and your pet. This is especially helpful during busy times such as holidays.

Check-out time without additional charges is 12:00 noon. You may check out at no additional charge during the following hours:

Monday – Friday: 7:30 am and 12:00 pm

Saturday: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Sunday you are always charged a full-day of lodging which includes check-out up until 12:00 noon on Monday. We are open from 3:00 pm  – 6:00 pm on Sunday should you wish to pick up your pet during these hours.

Can I tour your facility?

We welcome you to visit anytime during regular business hours. Our Customer Service staff will be delighted to take you on an informative tour of the public areas of New Mexican Kennels.

When do I pay for services?

Services are due in full at check-out.

We accept all major credit cards.

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

Please see our Cancellation Policy listed below.

Because we schedule our staff and assign lodging based on the number of pets in-house, at any given time, if you fail to show up for a scheduled Reservation or fail to cancel a reservation within our published timelines, we are adversely affected.

Our Reservation intake process requires a valid credit card to be included in your customer profile.

Cancellation Policy: Your credit card will be charged a cancellation fee if:

If you fail to arrive on the date scheduled, or if you fail to cancel a Reservation with a 24-hour notice, your credit card will be charged $36. The exception to this policy is during Winter Holidays, where a $50 deposit is required to hold a Reservation. During this time, if you fail to arrive as scheduled or fail to provide a 72-hour Notice of Cancellation, your deposit will be retained.

We accept all major credit cards.

What do you feed my pet?

With the exception of dogs and cats, we require owners of birds and small animals to bring their own food, cages, and bedding. Some owners prefer to bring their own water as well. We are happy to accommodate you.

We will feed your pet according to your instructions.

What vaccinations do you require?

Will my pet come in contact with other pets?

Birds, pocket pets and ferrets are kept in their own cages in one room together. They do not interact with each other, however, they are kept in the same room. Should you wish your pet to be kept in a separate space, please discuss this option with us prior to making a Reservation.

Pot-Bellied pigs and goats stay in our main kennel buildings. They have the same size condo with adjoining run as the dogs in our care. They are separated by high concrete walls so they do not come into direct contact with other animals.

What if my pet becomes sick?

There is no Veterinarian on premise. Should your pet not feel well, we will attempt to contact you, your emergency contact and your veterinarian for instructions.

However, if no communication is possible, we will contact our regular daytime veterinarian or our 24-hour emergency veterinarian, both of whom we are affiliated.

We will notify you and your veterinarian of your pet’s situation at the earliest opportunity.
